Apocalypticism

Apocalypticism refers to the belief in an imminent, transformative end of the world or a significant shift in the social, political, or spiritual order. Rooted in religious, cultural, and ideological contexts, apocalypticism often portrays a future where existing systems are dismantled, and a new, idealized world emerges. Common in religious traditions like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, apocalypticism is also found in secular ideologies, including environmental movements and political extremism. It frequently involves themes of divine judgment, moral reckoning, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. Sociologists study apocalypticism to analyze its role in shaping group behavior, fostering social movements, and influencing political and cultural discourse. This concept helps explain how existential fears and transformative visions motivate collective action and ideological shifts in response to perceived crises or injustices.
