Anomie
Anomie is a sociological concept introduced by Émile Durkheim, describing a state of normlessness or social instability resulting from a breakdown of shared values, norms, or expectations within a society. It arises during periods of rapid social change, economic disruption, or cultural shifts, leaving individuals without clear guidance or a sense of belonging. Anomie can lead to feelings of isolation, purposelessness, and increased deviant behaviors, as people struggle to find meaning and structure in their lives. Sociologists use the concept of anomie to analyze societal cohesion, the effects of modernization, and the roots of social problems like crime and alienation.
