Questionnaires in research are structured data collection tools used to gather standardized information from respondents, typically through closed- or open-ended questions. In sociology, questionnaires are essential in quantitative research for measuring attitudes, behaviors, beliefs, and demographic characteristics across large populations. They enable researchers to analyze patterns, make generalizations, and test sociological theories. Questionnaires are often employed in surveys, censuses, and opinion polls and can be administered in person, by mail, online, or via phone. Their effectiveness depends on clarity, question design, response format, and sampling strategies. While questionnaires offer efficiency and replicability, they may also suffer from limitations such as response bias, social desirability effects, and limited depth of insight. Sociologists use questionnaires to explore social trends, test hypotheses, and inform policy-making, while also addressing ethical considerations such as anonymity and informed consent.
