Gendered Violence
Gendered Violence refers to harmful acts directed at individuals based on their gender, often aimed at reinforcing traditional gender roles and power imbalances. This type of violence includes physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse, and disproportionately affects women, girls, and gender minorities. Gendered violence is rooted in societal norms, patriarchy, and structural inequalities that perpetuate discrimination and devalue certain genders. Examples include domestic abuse, sexual assault, honor-based violence, and harassment. In sociology, gendered violence is studied to understand the power dynamics within societies, the impact of cultural norms on violent behaviors, and the social structures that perpetuate gender-based harm. Addressing gendered violence requires challenging these norms, advocating for policy changes, and promoting gender equality to create safe environments for all individuals.
