Asylum Seekers
Asylum Seekers are individuals who leave their home countries due to fear of persecution, violence, or war and seek refuge in another country, awaiting legal recognition as refugees. Persecution may be based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Unlike refugees, asylum seekers have not yet been granted formal protection under international or domestic asylum laws. The process of seeking asylum often involves navigating complex legal systems and facing significant challenges, such as detention, limited access to resources, and stigmatization. Sociologists study asylum seekers to analyze migration patterns, the impacts of displacement, and the societal responses in host countries. This analysis highlights broader issues such as inequality, xenophobia, and the intersection of human rights and global policy.
