Archetype

Archetype refers to a universal, recurring symbol, character, or theme deeply embedded in human culture and collective consciousness. Originally conceptualized by Carl Jung in psychology, the term is also widely used in sociology and cultural studies to analyze shared patterns in myths, narratives, and societal structures. Archetypes, such as the hero, the caregiver, or the trickster, represent foundational human experiences and influence societal norms, values, and behaviors. Sociologists study archetypes to understand how they shape cultural narratives, reinforce social roles, and create shared meanings across diverse societies. Archetypes are critical for examining the interplay between individual identity and collective culture.
